P1 – The development of advanced composite materials based on polystyrene and graphene oxide, with improved fire performance to protect life
The project proposal presents an innovative concept, namely a method to obtain, by in situ polymerization, in the presence of benzoyl peroxide, composite polystyrene materials and various concentrations (0.5-5%) of functionalized graphene oxide with reactive organic compounds rich in phosphorus and nitrogen (hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene) and C = C (hydroxy-ethylacrylate) groups, respectively, with fire resistance and improved mechanical strength. Composite materials will be characterized to elucidate their morpho-structural features and the reaction to fire will be assessed by ignitability measurements
